Ask for the full scope
A reliable comparison starts with the same job description. Explain whether you need access restored, an existing cylinder rekeyed, damaged hardware repaired or a new product fitted. Ask how the quote accounts for the visit, labor, parts, additional keys and any other applicable charges. This website does not publish a flat price because the hardware, condition and work required have not yet been inspected.
What can change the estimate
The number of openings, cylinder compatibility, door condition and new hardware choices can change the scope. A vehicle key request also depends on the make, model, model year, key system and whether a working key remains. An access problem involving a common entrance may need building authorization before any quote can be finalized.
Rekeying and replacement are different jobs
Rekeying retains compatible existing hardware and changes the operating key. Replacement adds a new hardware selection and installation questions. Neither option should be quoted as the other. If the lock itself is in good condition, ask whether rekeying meets your goal before deciding to replace it.
Agree before additional work
Inspection can reveal a problem that was not clear over the phone. Ask for an explanation of the finding, the available options and the revised total before authorizing extra work. Keep a record of what was agreed and request an itemized receipt. Confirm any product warranty or workmanship terms directly; do not assume a particular guarantee.
